Use PingPlotter Cloud to Diagnose Network Issues
Table of Contents
Scope
This document will show you how to install a PingPlotter Cloud agent on a client's network. These agents will run a traceroute towards all three of our SIP servers from the client's network, allowing you to potentially identify packet loss and latency on the route being taken to our servers. Significant amounts of packet loss and latency can cause call quality issues and phone registration issues.
Requirements
PingPlotter Cloud account
Configuring PingPlotter
- Log in to PingPlotter Cloud
- On the left-hand menu, select Agents
- Select Create Agent and enter in the case number plus domain for the agent name
- Select your new agent from the Cloud Agents list, and then click the empty field under Target in the right-hand column. Enter in the following IP addresses, pressing the Save button in between each address:
- sbc-atl.ucaasnetwork.com - ATL Primary Web Portal
- sbc-grr.ucaasnetwork.com - GRR Web Portal
- sbc-las.ucaasnetwork.com - LAS Web Portal
- 8.8.8.8 - Google DNS
- Your Preset Targets list should look like what's shown in the image above. Once you have all three IP addresses entered, click the Installer button towards the bottom of the agent window, copy the link to the web page and send it to the client, who will follow the on-screen instructions from there.
- Have the client verify that they've installed the agent so you can check PingPlotter Cloud and verify that the agent has been installed correctly and that the traces are active.
Note: if you're trying to identify whether a network issue is occurring with our datacenter or a common hop on the route a client's traffic is taking to our datacenter, you can use Google's DNS as a constant by adding 8.8.8.8 as an additional target in the agent.
Downloading the .pp2 File
After the agent has run for the necessary amount of time, you can download the .pp2 files to review on your local installation of PingPlotter, and then send these files over the the Channel Partner/ White Label Partner so they can review them as well.
- Log in to PingPlotter Cloud
- Select Agents from the left-hand panel.
- Locate the agent you created above, and click the IP address/ FQDN for the core you'd like to download a .pp2 for under the Preset Targets or Targets section.
- Click Download PP2 in the top right corner of the screen, and repeat these steps for the other cores you need to download data for.
Remove an Agent from PingPlotter Cloud
After you have finished gathering the necessary data needed for your case, you can remove the agent from the user's machine without any involvement on their end. Agents should be removed from PingPlotter Cloud no later than 3 days after the case has been closed. If the case is re-opened after this window of time, create a new agent for the client to install.
- From the Agents menu, select the agent you'd like to uninstall.
- Click Delete to open the drop-down menu.
- Select Uninstall.
