Intended Audience: Mobile-X Users Currently Not On Direct VoLTE Network
This article outlines the process and expectations for Mobile-X users to be migrated to our Direct VoLTE Interconnect solution.
When will the migration occur?
The migration will occur overnight on Thursday, June 23rd. On the morning of Friday, June 24th, clients must follow the migration procedure. This migration is mandatory for services and cannot be rescheduled.
Who is affected?
Only existing Mobile-X users with SIM cards not currently on the Direct VoLTE network are affected. These users will receive email notifications directly advising them of the updates. If you are unsure of your status, contact support.
What is the expected process?
Affected users will receive new SIM cards in the mail. The SIM cards will include each user's name and phone number, along with instructions for replacing their old SIM on the back of the envelope.
On the morning of Friday, June 24th, users should replace their existing SIM cards with the newly provided cards. NOTE: The new SIM cards will not work until after the cutover is complete, so users should not replace them until Friday morning.
Once completed, the users will be on the VoLTE network and the old SIM card may be discarded.
Why is this migration occurring?
Major MVNO carriers across the United States have begun the process of switching off their 3G Voice services in favor of VoLTE. AT&T switched off its 3G network on February 22nd, and T-Mobile plans to switch off its network on July 1st. This migration is occurring in line with that change to ensure users do not lose service.
VoLTE also provides improved voice services and coverage to users and is required for use of services that will be available in the future, such as iMessage, eSIM, and over-the-air updates.
